Mike Hatten, P.E. is the principal mechanical and energy engineer at Solarc. He has been actively involved in analysis, design, and construction of energy efficient buildings since 1981. He is a professional mechanical engineer in Oregon, Washington and Utah.  His professional work builds from a personal passion to contribute re-making the energy performance reality of the building environment.  His work has involved systems design, energy modeling, energy auditing, commissioning and re-commissioning, and energy education.  While most of his work has focused on commercial and institutional projects, Mike has been involved in numerous residential and industrial projects, as well.  In a career now spanning 35 years, he has a profound understanding of the real-world of building system equipment and operations, with a focus on energy-using systems. His experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting building systems carries over into his work with new projects both as engineering design discipline leader and specialty energy efficiency consultant. He is an energy engineering leader at a national level, and regularly speaks or otherwise offers energy training sessions.  As a principal in an architecture-engineering firm over much of his recent career, he understands the inter-related discipline responsibilities within a design team, and can effectively integrate into the team in a number of different roles.

He has developed a special knowledge of healthcare facilities and operations over the course of the past 20 years.  This has translated to numerous engagements where he has effectively assembled and led hospital strategic energy management initiatives.

Mike’s commitment to clients and projects is to make Solarc Energy Group the most “energy-creative” consultant that either clients or projects have ever experienced.  He does this through direct involvement with project teams, creating and enhancing personal relationships, and bringing actionable experience-based information to a project in a positive and creative manner.
